Since its creation in 1941, the Gibson County Soil and Water Conservation District's mission has been to promote practical and effective soil, water, and related natural resource programs to all citizens of Gibson County.

We provide technical expertise on a variety of natural resource problems for the residents of Gibson County. Some of the services we provide are:

  • Implement farm, ranch, and forestland conservation practices to protect soil productivity, water quality and quantity, air quality, and wildlife habitat.
  • Conserve and restore wetlands, which purify water and provide habitat for birds, fish, and other animals.
  • We assist ranchers with grazing and water management on pasture grounds to improve their foraging and livestock herds.
  • We can provide cover crop practices and mixtures to reduce soil erosion and build organic matter on their farm.
  • We assist landowners of Gibson County with soil erosion concerns on farm and pasture ground.

The Gibson County SWCD is governed by a five-member volunteer Board of Supervisors, comprised of land-owning conservation professionals in Gibson County. The District Board is supported by a SWCD Administrator and a SWCD Soil Technician. The Board hosts a monthly business meeting on the third Tuesday of every month at 10 am at 1252 Manufacturers Row in Trenton, TN. The meeting is open to the public. Please contact us before planning to attend a meeting, so we can ensure to have adequate seating.
